From MBA to Public Service: Thriving in Tokyo’s Competitive Market Ryuichi Okubo, City Councilmember of Tokorozawa, Japan, graduated from Anaheim University’s online Global Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program in 2010. He shared his experience in the program: “I am a graduate of Anaheim University’s online Global Master of Business Administration degree program. I pursued my MBA online with Anaheim University while working full-time for Kyocera Maruzen Systems Integration. I was very fortunate to study with students from a large number of multinational corporations in Tokyo as Anaheim University had Global Learning Partnerships with IBM Japan, Citigroup K.K, Nissan, Dupont, Michelin, Accenture, Johnson & Johnson, and many other multinational corporations. In fact, during the years I was enrolled at Anaheim in 2008 and 2009, Anaheim University was ranked by Japan’s most prestigious MBA ranking, the Nikkei BP University and Graduate School Guide Ranking. In 2008, Anaheim University was ranked top amongst 68 programs available in Japan tied with Temple University 1st place in 2 MBA ranking categories. This was repeated in 2009 when again they were ranked 1st place in 2 categories but out of 69 MBA programs available in Japan. The following year in 2010, I graduated from the university and my career began to propel, going from human resources staff to PR/Secretary in the Corporate Planning Division. The MBA that I earned has been instrumental in providing me with the skills required to succeed in Tokyo’s sophisticated and competitive market and today I serve the City of Tokorozawa, a major city in Saitama Prefecture, as a Tokorozawa City Councilmember, proudly displaying my Anaheim University MBA on the back of my business card. For me, the experience at Anaheim University was exceptional. Not only did I learn from highly esteemed faculty members, all with doctoral business degrees and international business experience, but I also had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of seminars with business experts and corporate CEOs. What made the experience at Anaheim University truly special was I had the opportunity to study with students living in various countries around the globe and today I continue to benefit from this global network of Anaheim University alumni members.” Ryuichi Okubo, City Councilmember of Tokorozawa, Japan & Anaheim University MBA Graduate

Global Leadership and Impact Through Anaheim University’s Ed.D. in TESOL Program Dr. Linh Phung was the first graduate of Anaheim University’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in TESOL program in 2017. Dr. Phung shared her experience in the program: “As a member of the inaugural cohort in the EdD in TESOL program from 2013 to 2017, I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the exceptional quality and innovation that define this program. The faculty comprises top scholars in the field, whose dedication to their students’ success is remarkable. Throughout my studies, I found the courses to be rigorously designed, engaging, and relevant, providing a solid foundation in both theory and practice. The program’s innovative structure, combining asynchronous learning with live sessions, fostered an interactive and dynamic learning environment that accommodated diverse learning needs. I had the honor of conducting my dissertation research under the guidance of Professor Rod Ellis and Professor Craig Lambert, whose expertise and encouragement were instrumental to my success. Their timely and insightful feedback made the challenging process of research smoother than I could have ever hoped for. I’d like to highlight that Professor Ellis’s supportive mentorship extended beyond graduation as he continued to encourage my efforts as I pursued research and professional endeavors after graduating from the program in March 2017.  Since completing my degree, I have published several books and research articles, some of which were in collaboration with former professor Hayo Reinders. I have conducted research together with another EdD graduate, Dr. Bradford Lee. I have been selected as an English Language Specialist by the U.S. Department of State in 2023. I have been elected to serve the Nominating Committee of TESOL International Association with over 10,000 members worldwide. These achievements are a testament to the strong preparation and enduring relationships fostered by the program. Moreover, many of my peers have gone on to make significant contributions to the field of TESOL, conducting impactful research and advancing educational practices worldwide. The rigorous academic training at Anaheim University equips graduates with the skills and confidence necessary to excel in various professional contexts. Anaheim University’s EdD in TESOL offers high-quality, accessible education that transcends geographical barriers, empowering students, teachers, and aspiring researchers globally.” Eduling Founder & Anaheim University Ed.D. in TESOL graduate Linh Phung

Ed.D. in TESOL Grad Dr. Bradford Lee

Launching an Academic Career Through Anaheim University’s Ed.D. TESOL Program Dr. Bradford Lee, Director of the International Center at Fukui University of Technology in Japan, graduated from the Anaheim University Ed.D. in TESOL program in 2018. He shared his experience in the program: “I chose Anaheim University’s Ed.D. TESOL program to have the opportunity to work with some of the biggest and most influential researchers and practitioners in the field. I have lived and worked in Japan since 1999. I’m currently a full professor with tenure and Director of the International Center at Fukui University of Technology. Since graduating, I have collaborated on the following journal articles with Anaheim University TESOL faculty  Lee, B., Plonsky, L., & Saito, K. (2020). The effects of perception- vs. production-based pronunciation instruction. System, 88(Feb 2020), 102185. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.system.2019.102185 Reinders, H., Lee, B. J., & Bonner, E. (2023). Tracking learner engagement in the L2 classroom with experience sampling.Research Methods in Applied Linguistics, 2(2), 100052. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rmal.2023.100052 Lee, B. J., Reinders, H., & Bonner, E. (in press). Monitoring engagement in the foreign language classroom: Learners’ perspectives. The first was based off of my dissertation work with my advisor, Luke Plonsky. This work was integral in launching my academic career for several reasons. First of all, Luke’s guidance was key in both running a successful experiment and also in the formal write-up. He also was able to bring in a world-class researcher, Kazuya Saito, to serve as an external reviewer during my dissertation, which enabled me to receive guidance from yet another leading researcher in the field. The resulting paper has been cited dozens of times and has led to several researchers contacting me to ask about the work or with offers for collaborations.  I have also been working closely with Hayo Reinders for the past couple of years on a new research project, funded by the national Japanese Grants-in-Aid program (Kaken). This collaboration has currently resulted in one published paper, and one currently in press. These highly visible and impactful research activities have allowed me to gain the rank of Full Professor at my university, and I now currently serve as the Director of the International Center where I continue my international collaborative research activities while making connections and running programs with institutions overseas.” Anaheim University Ed.D. in TESOL Graduate & Fukui University of Technology Director of the International Center, Dr. Bradford Lee
