From MBA to Public Service: Thriving in Tokyo's Competitive Market
Ryuichi Okubo, City Councilmember of Tokorozawa, Japan, graduated from Anaheim University’s online Global Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program in 2010. He shared his experience in the program:
“I am a graduate of Anaheim University’s online Global Master of Business Administration degree program. I pursued my MBA online with Anaheim University while working full-time for Kyocera Maruzen Systems Integration. I was very fortunate to study with students from a large number of multinational corporations in Tokyo as Anaheim University had Global Learning Partnerships with IBM Japan, Citigroup K.K, Nissan, Dupont, Michelin, Accenture, Johnson & Johnson, and many other multinational corporations.
In fact, during the years I was enrolled at Anaheim in 2008 and 2009, Anaheim University was ranked by Japan’s most prestigious MBA ranking, the Nikkei BP University and Graduate School Guide Ranking. In 2008, Anaheim University was ranked top amongst 68 programs available in Japan tied with Temple University 1st place in 2 MBA ranking categories. This was repeated in 2009 when again they were ranked 1st place in 2 categories but out of 69 MBA programs available in Japan. The following year in 2010, I graduated from the university and my career began to propel, going from human resources staff to PR/Secretary in the Corporate Planning Division.
The MBA that I earned has been instrumental in providing me with the skills required to succeed in Tokyo’s sophisticated and competitive market and today I serve the City of Tokorozawa, a major city in Saitama Prefecture, as a Tokorozawa City Councilmember, proudly displaying my Anaheim University MBA on the back of my business card. For me, the experience at Anaheim University was exceptional. Not only did I learn from highly esteemed faculty members, all with doctoral business degrees and international business experience, but I also had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of seminars with business experts and corporate CEOs.
What made the experience at Anaheim University truly special was I had the opportunity to study with students living in various countries around the globe and today I continue to benefit from this global network of Anaheim University alumni members.”
