Launching an Academic Career Through Anaheim University's Ed.D. TESOL Program
Dr. Bradford Lee, Director of the International Center at Fukui University of Technology in Japan, graduated from the Anaheim University Ed.D. in TESOL program in 2018. He shared his experience in the program:
“I chose Anaheim University’s Ed.D. TESOL program to have the opportunity to work with some of the biggest and most influential researchers and practitioners in the field. I have lived and worked in Japan since 1999. I’m currently a full professor with tenure and Director of the International Center at Fukui University of Technology.
Since graduating, I have collaborated on the following journal articles with Anaheim University TESOL faculty
- Lee, B., Plonsky, L., & Saito, K. (2020). The effects of perception- vs. production-based pronunciation instruction. System, 88(Feb 2020), 102185. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0346251X19305196?via%3Dihub
- Reinders, H., Lee, B. J., & Bonner, E. (2023). Tracking learner engagement in the L2 classroom with experience sampling.Research Methods in Applied Linguistics, 2(2), 100052. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2772766123000125?via%3Dihub
- Lee, B. J., Reinders, H., & Bonner, E. (in press). Monitoring engagement in the foreign language classroom: Learners’ perspectives.
The first was based off of my dissertation work with my advisor, Luke Plonsky. This work was integral in launching my academic career for several reasons. First of all, Luke’s guidance was key in both running a successful experiment and also in the formal write-up. He also was able to bring in a world-class researcher, Kazuya Saito, to serve as an external reviewer during my dissertation, which enabled me to receive guidance from yet another leading researcher in the field. The resulting paper has been cited dozens of times and has led to several researchers contacting me to ask about the work or with offers for collaborations.
I have also been working closely with Hayo Reinders for the past couple of years on a new research project, funded by the national Japanese Grants-in-Aid program (Kaken). This collaboration has currently resulted in one published paper, and one currently in press. These highly visible and impactful research activities have allowed me to gain the rank of Full Professor at my university, and I now currently serve as the Director of the International Center where I continue my international collaborative research activities while making connections and running programs with institutions overseas.”
