On January 17th, 2009 Anaheim University gained national accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), an 82-year old accrediting commission based in Washington, D.C. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

The DETC Accrediting Commission defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence in distance education institutions, reviewing an institution's mission and objectives; student services; qualifications of administrators, faculty and staff; educational program objectives, curricula and materials; admission practices, and financial responsibility. DETC accreditation helps facilitate acceptance of credits and degrees by other academic institutions. U.S. Department of Education recognition qualifies DETC institutions and students for federal aid, such as military tuition assistance, government tuition reimbursement, and Veterans Administration entitlement programs.

According to Anaheim University President Dr. William Hartley, “We are a much better institution for pursuing DETC accreditation. DETC standards are high and we are proud to have met or exceeded them and to be accredited by the DETC.”

Founded in 1996, Anaheim University pioneered online education by offering the world's first Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program to be taught online in real time. The MA program is taught by four of the world's most renowned linguists, David Nunan (the University's founding Dean and world's leading textbook author with over 1,000,000,000 textbooks sold), Rod Ellis, Kathleen Bailey and Ruth Wajnryb.

The David Nunan TESOL Institute offers an online TESOL Certificate and the AU Kisho Kurokawa Green Institute offers Online Certificate, Diploma and MBA in Sustainable Management (Online Green MBA) programs.

Out of 68 MBA programs reviewed by Japan's leading Economic publisher Nikkei BP in 2008, the Anaheim University Akio Morita School of Business (named in honor of the late Sony Founder) was ranked #1 in 3 sub-categories leading to an overall #1 ranking. Anaheim offers a 100% Online International MBA as well as a blended learning Professional MBA with weekend study groups at the Akio Morita Learning Center in Japan.
