Plan Your Studies

A few rules that help you finish on time.

COURSE ORDER

Take Courses When Offered

Enroll each time a course you need is offered. All coursework must be finished before you move on to the dissertation.

QUALIFYING EXAMS

Pass at 80%

You take a qualifying exam after each of your first five courses and need an average of 80% to continue.

COMPREHENSIVE EXAM

Before the Dissertation

Taken after coursework; you need 80% to advance. If not, you join a study term with a faculty mentor and retake it.

TIME LIMIT

Up to Five Years

Most students finish in under four years. Extensions beyond five years need approval and carry a fee of $2,000 per term.
