The DBA in Management combines business administration foundations with specialized study in organizational development, human resource management, ethics, and international business law. The program also develops research skills that students apply to complex management and organizational challenges.
16 courses and a 4-term dissertation, taken across twenty terms. Courses run in 6-week blocks with two live 90-minute seminars each, so the teaching is delivered by faculty in real time rather than through recordings. The dissertation applies doctoral research methods to a management problem that matters in practice.

What is the difference between a DBA and a PhD?
Both are terminal doctorates and both require original research. The difference is what the research is for. A PhD contributes new theory to an academic field and is the conventional route into a research career. A DBA applies doctoral-level research method to a problem of practice, and is designed for people who intend to keep working in industry. Both require a dissertation; the difference is whether the research is written for the field or for the workplace.
Is a DBA a real doctorate?
Yes. It is a terminal degree in business administration, requiring original research and a dissertation, and it carries the title of doctor. Anaheim University’s own President, Dr Andrew E. Honeycutt, holds a DBA from Harvard University.
Do I need an MBA to apply?
Yes. Entry to the DBA in Management requires a completed MBA, and the program is 60 credit hours beyond it. A 3.0 GPA must be maintained through to graduation. If you hold a different master’s degree, ask admissions how your qualification is assessed.
Can I teach at university level with a DBA?
Many DBA holders teach, particularly on professional and teaching-focused business programs. Research-intensive universities often prefer a PhD for tenure-track appointments. Do I have to travel or attend anything in person?
No. The DBA in Management is delivered entirely online, with no residency requirement and no need to relocate.
What is the dissertation, and what can I research?
The dissertation runs across the final four terms. Because the DBA is an applied doctorate, the research problem is normally drawn from your own industry or organisation, which is what allows the work to sit alongside a career. Your topic is agreed with faculty supervision.
Is the DBA accredited?
Anaheim University is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). The DEAC is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency. Accreditation is institutional, covering the university and the programs it offers.
What does it cost, and is financial aid available?
Tuition is charged course by course rather than as a single fee, so the cost spreads across the program, and current figures are published in the catalog. Anaheim University does not participate in federal or state financial aid programs, so US federal loans and grants are not available.
